He would also like to apologise for having taken me away from my blog over the last week or so. You see, we've been spending a bit of time together. Now, before you get all excited about this, Cakes knows about our love affair and is totally okay with it. He even encourages it! What a flexible husband.
Actually, my absence from blogging was more to do with the preparation of the backyard in anticipation of the arrival of my new boyfriend. Cakes and I laid paving stones, 1200 square feet of sod, many perrenials including strawberries and blueberry bushes and constructed raised garden beds and stonework garden borders and assembled a flash outdoor dining setting! We did this every night last week and two weekends in a row and were so pooped every night we fell into bed exhausted.
The yard looks great now, and the new boyfriend is happly perched on our new paving stone patio, looking smashing. And so he should! He's got 4 burners plus an infrared 12,o00 BTU electric rotisserie, 662 square inches of cooking surface, a side burner and procelain coated cast iron grilles. Sigh.
And tonight we broke him in but good. He loved this. Kept begging for more.
Ginger & Lime Hoisin Pork
- lean pork roast, sliced into steaks
- juice of 2 limes
- zest of 1 lime
- 1 inch ginger root, sliced thinly
- 1/3 cup palm sugar (you can substitute brown or golden sugar)
- 1/3 cup soy sauce
- 1/3 cup hoisin
- 3 cloves garlic, smashed
Chuck it all into a large ziploc bag and let it sit 24 hours or overnight.
Then chuck it all on to a well heated barbeque.
That's it.
PS. Don't think I've thrown over last June's "new" Boyfriend. He's still got a special place in my heart and my kitchen...
PPS. I wonder why all me cooking applicances are "boys"?

Congratulations on your new love, may you both enjoy many a good culinary adventure together!
P.S. The marinade sounds amazing, can't wait till summer brings bbq weather back here to Australia!

That looks fantastic! We'll be breaking out the BBQ for the long weekend, definately!
Perhaps refering to the kitchen gadgets as "boys" is insight as to why some men refer to their cars in the feminine... :D
